Take that rewind it back

Unfortunately I realised how broke I was and the season came to close with me moving back to Dawson Creek for the summer to get mahhh self a job:( This was easily the best skiing of my life. So much pow, fun and smiles. So stoked to do it all again but this year living in Whistler= more skiing. I got pretty bored at work sometimes so I threw together an edit of my favorite shots of the season, I'd also like to note I wrote highlights wrong in the edit.......

Juneary?

Well, I sort of forgot about blogging but I am attempting to kick start this thing again this year and hope that this season is only as fun as the last! Hopefully I can step up both the quality of the edits and skiing from last year too.

I guess I'll start where I left things off last season. Mayish or June? In Van and Whis last year we were blessed with the like La Nina last year, for those of you who do not know, that means mad snow on the Best Coast. Not only did it mean mad snow in the winter, but it meant we still got to ski well into the spring and well early summer too. The park was bumping in Whistler and I got to do some sunny summer laps in June at Grouse. I actually went skiing one day at Grouse and got sun burnt at Wreck Beach the next. Only here, love this city.

We be bumming it.

Well exams came to a fold and Whistler livin kicked in until the start of the summer semester (10 days). All my plans for free rent in Whistler failed miserably so I forked up the cash for a hostel. Paolo on the other hand, was less willing to spend his dolla and spent 10 consecutive days in his car. Watching him scrounge around Whistler finding creative ways to eat, shower and sleep for free was more or less the highlight of my trip.

The weather in Whistler was well, typical Wet Coast. About the half the time I couldn't see over a 6 meters in front of me but when the sun did roll out it was saaawweeet! Pierre rolled into town with his fancy camera and we were able to shoot for a couple days. Generally, this when I stop skiing for the season and go home to make some coin, but this year we have been blessed with an incredible snowbase and I'll be sticking in Van City for summer school. This means I can keep skiing, word on the street in Grouse will be staying open till July, I'll have to check it in June once Whistler closes.

The Whistler week can be more or less summed up in this edit,

Study Break

Well its exams, I went 8 days in row without skiing, longest I've gone all year, really not that bad if you think about it.

James Hume and myself climbed to the peak of Seymour hoping to take advantage of the late season dumps they've gotten and build city booter. Surprise surprise it was bombed out. No problem, we just ventured 100ft west and found a nearly identical hit. We me met up with Billy Jackson and co. hoping to take some tasty sunset booter shots of the city.

The stars didn't quite align this day. James, unfortunately, strained his meniscus on the second hit, and the clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped just as we started, very icy landings indeed. We made the best of it, I was able to hit it maybe 10 times and Billy clicked that camera of his and made a mediocre evening look pretty sweet. All and all, its the end of April I should stop complaining this season's snow has been epic!

Just checking if my dog ran away at home while doing a 5 tail.

Snapped a quick shot with the Go Pro, not a bad day.

March was rad, pow was to be had and zeee park was pretty fun. Played around with Pierre's Go-Pro on the rails and the baby jumps. Hopefully we'll be able to get some footy on the bigger jumps after exams, booooo.

Know Yo Roots

Billy J and I hit up Seymour for a quick sesh Monday afternoon. Got some a few shots on the Nike 6.0 Red Ledge. For those of you that don't know Seymour and Nike 6.0 put together a park of replicas of real urban features, pretty cool.

Went to the Birlington Double-set to slide the flat to drop, apparently that rain is slippery, 7ft to flat on my back. Short sesh indeed. Walking like I shit my pants now.

BillyJackson snapped this one with his new fisheye lense on Seymour's 'Red Ledge'. FUN!

zeeee fun!

Pierre has been nice enough to let me use his Go Pro this season. Here is some fun powder and shitty park shots I've gotten this season. Hopefully the sun will come out someday and can make a fun park edit. Maybe thats just wishful thinking.

POW-POW

Well lately has been face shot after face shot. Finished up my last set of midterms and had 10 days off for READINGBREAK. And rather than a wet t-shirt contests on the South Beach like most students have, it was more of a wet tall-tee contest in the pow at Whistler (edit soon to follow.)
 Heres a taste....

8 Days of smiles, powdddah and old friends. Can't get much better than this. Welcome back La-Nina! Seems like winter is just kicking off again at the end of February, eat your hearts out you fair weathered Vancouverites.

This week I was able to do a shoot with Gordini/ Drop thanks to the work of the mad talented Zach Copland, who was able to take a 500 shots of myself and the Seymour locos making stuff just look good. Kid got creative, showing Seymour's best. Well worth skipping school for the smiles, let alone the free swag!

Life as a Shorty Shouldn't be so Rough

Geehhh midterms, life as a robot in my room with a 'go-go gadget increase knowledge.' Skiing more or less went on hold this week to learn all the material I probably should have been covering the past 1.5 months. I successfully got through this weekend without going to the mountain, but by Monday afternoon, I caved. Hollered at my boy Billy Jackson and had an evening sesh in the fog at the lovely Seymour. Screw it, studying can go on hold just one more day.

Billy Jackson, snagged this one while I was hiking the jump. Without a doubt shot of the night.

Attempt to handrag, way too much speed. One of those 'I'm idiot moments'. Oh well no harm done. Photo Cred to Billy Jackson. He is for real.

Lazy Sunday in the Best City on Earth

Whistler was a bit of a bust this Saturday with the weather. Chilled out in Van  on Sunday to hit up Cream-mour. The Sun poked out but the temperatures stayed low, should have brought my skates. On the plus side, an afternoon with friends in the sunshine isn't bad, hopefully tomorrow brings better snow.

Chronic-whatkles of Gnarnia

Well I have been pretty gosh darn lazy and haven't been filming, updating or doing much other than skiing with a smile lately. But here is what went down since my last update.

After a festive Christmas at home I was lucky enough to ski in Jasper for a solid week, and the rocky mountains were well,  rocky... That John Denver wasn't full of shit man. Not much snow, and the park was icy as hell. Well actually, I always picture hell to be more on fire, but you get the drift. I guess icy skiing is better than no skiing.

After the rock slalom in Jasper, I headed back to the wonderful DC, where I played kid again. Living Vancouver has truly made me appreciate how lucky I have been to grow up with winter at my house and having a place in the country to play with. Had a solid few days setting up jumps and jibs in my backyard, I may be in my 20's,but I'm going to play forever.
Nothing that impressive, but just showing the fun I have at home.

After pretending to be 14 again, I hoped on plane back to the beautiful Van City. Skiing was fun up north but there was a serious lack of snow and maintained parks, which convienitly Whistler has both! So far things have been super chill at school so skiing has been a plentiful, gotta love being in Uni full-time and skiing 5 days a week.

Anyone who skis and has attended UBC can tell you there is mad metal everywhere but rarely is there the snow to slide those beautiful rails. Vancouver was blessed with some snow for a short 24hrs, Paolo Aranoff, Christian Slotboom and myself set out hit up a nice down rail at the Chan center. Probably not the smartest location.... UBC security showed up quickly, and were surprisingly chill about things. Nice to see that people can be cool with us having fun knowing that its not harming anyone. We spent a good 1.5 hours making an in-run, jump and landing, got all strapped in and ready to slide and the police showed up. The guy was super confused to what we were doing and a little less understanding. But oh well, next time.

I guess since urban was a no go, the mountains are a good second option. Pierre Millien and myself went up to hit up Mt. Seymour yesterday to play in the Nike 6.0 park and although the features were nothing huge, light was shit and snow was slow still got some fun shots.
